Actually, no one has asked us any of these questions yet so they certainly aren’t “frequently asked” but the answers still might be helpful to you!
Q: The invite was addressed to just me.. can I bring a date/partner/friend/cutie I met on Tinder when I got to Raleigh?
A: OF COURSE, duh. The more the merrier! We do need an approximate head count so we can make sure everyone has enough food and drink (and space, if you and your person are staying in an Airbnb) so make sure you mention it to us!
Q: What is the dress code?
A: Wear whatever* you want!! Lake will be in a white dress and Hugh will be in a linen suit. It’ll be the end of August in North Carolina so… it’s gonna be hot. If you use this listing as a guide (https://www.brides.com/story/wedding-dress-code-explained) something from the tropical/destination, casual, or semi-formal/dressy casual categories all sound great.
*Please, don’t wear pajama bottoms and Crocs. It should go without saying but sometimes you need to make that explicit.
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: You can totally bring little humans but please leave your furry children at home. If you plan to bring your kids, please let us know ahead of time so we can get some coloring books or Gameboys or high chairs (???)
Q: When do I need to get there? Where is “there”?
A: We’re going to start the ceremony at 6 so if you get there between 5:30 and 5:45, you can grab a drink and catch up with folks and settle in for the long ride. Just kidding – it’ll be short, we promise. The ceremony and reception are at 1609 Sherburg Court in Raleigh, NC. There’s only one place with that location so as long as you spell Sherburg correctly (S-h-e-r-b-u-r-g) in your GPS or Lyft app, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting there.
Q: How do I get there (like, transportation-wise)?
A:
If by “there” you mean Raleigh in general: you should probably fly into the RDU airport! Or if you’re close enough to drive, do that! We’ll make a playlist for your road trip!
If by “there” you meant the place where the wedding and reception are being held: we recommend Lyft or Ubering (or… a taxi?) to the house since most folks will be from out of town and probably won’t have a car. Plus, you might want to get a little k-razy. If you are driving, there will be street parking in our cul-de-sac.
Q: By when do I need to RSVP? What if my RSVP changes?
A: We’re honestly not sure why you haven’t RSVP’d already! Aren’t you super excited about this?! But really, please RSVP by June 26th. We know that things come up and plans change so if anything changes, just let us know!
Q: Where should I stay?
A: We’ve already booked (and paid for) a bunch of Airbnbs for Friday and Saturday because we want to make it as easy for you to get into town, relax, and celebrate with us! If you’d like to stay in one, please let know and we will assign you to one and give you the deets. Check-in is on Friday at 3 PM and check-out is on Sunday at 11 AM.
If you’d like to stay somewhere else, that’s awesome! There are a ton of Airbnbs in Raleigh as well as a number of hotels that are close to the house so choose whatever works best for you. The Aloft and Double Tree on Hillsborogh St. are close by, as are the hotels near Crossroads Plaza in Cary (Double Tree, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn). Farther out (but fancier!) are the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary and the Renaissance in North Hills.
Q: Is there a rehearsal dinner?
A: Not technically (because we don’t think there will be a rehearsal) but there WILL be a welcome dinner for everyone on Friday night. It will be at Trophy Tap+Table – 225 South Wilmington St. in downtown Raleigh. It’s a casual dinner that starts at 6 PM and goes until 10 PM so feel free to swing by any time between then!
Q: What’s this I hear about a pancake brunch on Sunday?
A: Hugh’s love language is making pancakes for people. He’s been working on perfecting his fluffiest pancake recipe for years and wants to show it off. Come by the house on Sunday to hang out and eat some carbs with us! It’s really just one last chance for us to see y’all!
Q: I’m getting into town early! What should I do?
A: Hang out with us, duh! We’ll be in Raleigh a few days before all this happens and would love to see you (and maybe put you to work on last minute wedding stuff). We also recommend checking out some of the museums (Natural History, NC Museum of Art! Contemporary Art Museum Raleigh!) and going on some nature walks at Umstead State Park. Downtown has changed a lot since Lake lived there so we aren’t totally sure what’s happening there but it seems pretty cool. This might help: https://triangleonthecheap.com/free-things-triangle-week/
Q: What about various brain/mood altering recreational substances?
A: We’re getting wine and beer (and non-alcoholic drinks like tea, lemonade, water, Coke Zero). If you want anything besides that, please bring it! There also will probably be a little smoking area as well 🙂
Q: I really want to come but I’m not sure I can swing it financially….
A: Need-based travel grants are available 😉 aka just ask and we will do whatever we can to make it possible for you to celebrate with us!
Q: Will there be dancing?
A: I’ll just have to answer your questions with another question – do you even know us?? OF COURSE there will be dancing.
